Earlier this week, Scott Devours, who performs in Roger Daltrey’s solo band, was confirmed as The Who’s new drummer within the wake of Zak Starkey’s convoluted departure.
Posting on Instagram, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey welcomed Devours, who has now thanked each males – and paid tribute to Starkey – in a prolonged letter to followers on Fb.
“I’m positive there are various followers who is not going to settle for me or anybody on that throne aside from Zak,” he writes. “I do know that this would be the case for some and I acknowledge that. For others, maybe the jury continues to be out. Possibly I’ll must let the music do the speaking?
“In my world, there are not any larger sneakers to fill than these behind Pete and Roger. The load of this accountability is gigantic and I’m feeling each ounce of it. What I need to say to all the followers is that I’ll do every thing I can to honour the legacy of The Who, Zak, Kenney Jones, Simon Phillips and the reminiscence of the nice Keith Moon.
“For my identify to even be talked about in a sentence like that actually sends shivers down my backbone and I do know I must earn this honor. Since that is the final time Pete and Roger can be touring the US, taking part in the best songs ever written, I can be giving them each second of my time, each beat of my coronary heart, and each drop of my sweat and blood. That is my final purpose.”
Starkey, who grew to become The Who’s drummer in 1996, was fired by the band for a second time earlier than Devours’ introduction. The dismissal occurred only a month after Starkey was initially fired and rapidly reinstated, reportedly after a dispute with frontman Daltrey grew to become public throughout a Teenage Most cancers Belief Efficiency at London’s Royal Albert Corridor.
