We’ve received some recent rot from the Nice White North. Edmonton, Alberta duo Derek Orthner (guitars/vocals/synth/results) and Durell Smith (drums/bass) have mixed to kind doomy demise metallic duo Anthrodynia, and we’re providing up a brand new monitor, “Engulfed in Grief,” from their debut full-length Unspeakable Horrors Emanating From Inside. The eight-minute-plus monitor is a intelligent homage to a sure iconic Boston sludge/doom band and lands sonically with spectacular weight and attendant foul stench. It’s a depressing trudge down a miserable musical path with gut-emptying vocals and riffs that unfurl in sluggish movement.

Unspeakable Horrors Emanating From Inside was recorded, combined and produced by Orthner. It was mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. It’s set to be issued on CD, LP and digitally on August 15 through Anonymous Grave Data. Preorders at the moment are dwell on the Anonymous Grave Data webshop right here and Bandcamp right here.

Derek Orthner had this to say concerning the new monitor:

“This can be a not-so-subtle homage to the band Grief, as we have been attempting to faucet into that dismal sludge sound for the primary half of this music. The lyrics cope with how brutal the grieving course of might be, as it might utterly drain one’s motivation, and result in a bleak existence. Poor coping mechanisms develop into self sabotage, particularly within the case of substance abuse. This was a really cathartic music to jot down, personally talking, and felt applicable for the heaviness of the music. The layering of lead guitar harmonies within the remaining a part of the music actually digs into these early-’90s demise/doom influences, and I like the way it got here out.”
