If there was ever a co-headliner that measures up (so to talk) to Hedwig And The Offended Inch, it’s Dagger Polyester. The Los Angeles-based artist’s overtly theatric fusion of punk, glam and artwork rock has landed them on phases with Yves Tumor, Weyes Blood and the Lemon Twigs. Polyester even snatched up the Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson to provide their debut LP, Perversion For Revenue, due August 1 on Silver Arrow.
And whereas Robinson’s bluesy-rock pedigree might appear to be an odd match for a gender-fluid drive of nature that counts Bowie, Roxy Music, Adam Ant and Kenneth Anger amongst their heroes, it’s a non-issue on “She Kissed The Gun.” Bombastic, irreverent and catchy as hell, the tune revisits the 2003 homicide of Lana Clarkson by the hands of Phil Spector. The video was co-directed and conceived by Polyester with longtime pal and collaborator Sammy Lamb.
“We explored themes of fantasy and obsession, utilizing artificial-looking units to painting each deception and a state of psychosis,” Polyester says. “I’m exploring and dissecting these similar themes by means of many alternative lenses on my upcoming album.”
