MAGNET Unique: Premiere Of Byland + The Bones Of J.R. Jones’ “Jubilee”


Alie Renee Byland got here away with greater than nice recollections after a string of reside dates with the Bones Of J.R Jones’ Jonathon Linaberry.  “Once we crossed paths once more amid our tour schedules, we obtained collectively in Los Angeles,” says the Seattle-based artist. “I introduced in a music (husband and collaborator) Jake (Byland) and I had been engaged on for fairly a while. Their efforts led to the darkly stunning, disarmingly tender “Jubilee,” a world-weary duet that harnesses Byland’s soulful theatricality and filters it effortlessly via Linaberry’s classic Appalachian prism. The intuitive chemistry on show leaves you wanting extra music from these two uniquely gifted singer/songwriters from reverse coasts.

“Instantly, I felt just like the lyrics, ‘What would occur for those who put down the burden of the world’ meant one thing totally different to every of us—he a seasoned musician who’s spent years on the highway, and me in my formative and keen years,” says Byland. “We spent awhile collectively, going over the melody, fine-tuning the primary verse and writing instrumental chords. It felt like we each realized this may very well be particular.”

They broke from that preliminary session with the promise of a second verse from Linaberry. “He despatched it again perhaps just a few weeks later,” says Byland. “When Jake and I listened, we each had been in tears.”

A number of months later, the 2 reconvened in New York Metropolis with Nathan Yaccino, who produced Byland’s wonderful, largely missed 2024 launch, Heavy For A Whereas. As they recorded “Jubilee” with drummer Jeremy Kolker, guitarist Skyler Mehal and Yaccino on bass, videographer Anthony Sabino filmed away.
