Florence + The Machine (aka Florence Welch and backing band) is releasing a brand new album, All people Scream, on October 31 (aka Halloween) through Republic. Now she has shared its second single, “One of many Greats.” Hear beneath.
The album was made in collaboration with Mark Bowen of IDLES, Aaron Dessner of The Nationwide, and Mitski.
Welch had this to say about “One of many Greats” in a press launch: “I don’t actually know methods to clarify myself with this one, it was type of an extended poem about the price of greatness. Who will get to determine what that’s? Why do I even need it? Why am I by no means happy?
“I really feel like I die a bit bit each time I make a document, and form of actually practically died on the final tour. All people Scream is the follow-up to 2022’s Dance Fever. In the course of the tour for that album Welch wanted lifesaving surgical procedure and her restoration influenced the brand new album. A press launch explains that her restoration “took her down the trail of religious mysticism, witchcraft and folks horror as she felt the bounds of her physique and explored what it means to be ‘healed.’ The album treads by means of womanhood, partnership, getting old and dying; exposing the murky within the mundane.”
In 2023 Florence + The Machine lined No Doubt’s 1995 hit “Only a Woman” for season 2 of Showtime’s acclaimed drama Yellowjackets (which is partially set within the Nineteen Nineties).
