Sam Moore has died aged 89. As a duo with Dave Prater, Moore loved hits together with “Maintain On! I’m Comin’” and “Soul Man”.
Bruce Springsteen described Moore as “one in all America’s biggest soul voices.”
Born in Miami, Moore carried out in gospel quartets earlier than assembly Prater in 1961. The pair signed to Atlantic Information in 1965, earlier than transferring to Stax Information beneath the auspices of songwriting/manufacturing crew Isaac Hayes and David Porter.

Prater died in 1988 and Moore’s profession continued. He toured with fellow Stax labelmates Booker T & the M.G.’s, Carla Thomas and Eddie Floyd in 1990 and in 1992, he recorded a number of songs with Springsteen for the Human Contact album. Springsteen contributed to Moore’s 2006 solo album In a single day Sensational, whereas Moore additionally joined the musician for covers of “I Forgot to Be Your Lover” and “Soul Days” on Springsteen’s album Solely The Robust Survive.
Paying tribute to Moore, Springsteen wrote, “There merely isn’t one other sound like Sam’s soulful tenor in American music. Having had the honour to work with Sam on a number of events, he was a candy and humorous man. He was stuffed with tales of the halcyon days of soul music, and to the tip had that fringe of deep authenticity in his voice I might solely surprise at.
