King Stingray Declares Break up with Lead Vocalist Forward of Tour


King Stingray has introduced the departure of lead vocalist Yirrŋa Yunupiŋu simply because the band prepares to embark on their huge For The Goals nationwide tour.

The announcement was shared through the band’s social media on March 19, confirming that Yunupiŋu, who co-founded the band in 2020, will now not be a part of the lineup. Getting into the position is Ngalakan Wanambi, who has already carried out with King Stingray on their latest U.S. tour.

“Hey everybody, we’ve bought some information to share – King Stingray and Yirrŋa have parted methods,” the band wrote. “To maintain the hearth burning, we’re stoked to introduce the lethal Ngalakan Wanambi stepping up on vocals. He completely smashed it with us on our latest U.S. tour, and as at all times, our predominant man, Dima Burarrwanga, shall be bringing the power as he at all times does.”

Fashioned in Yirrkala, a distant neighborhood in Arnhem Land, King Stingray shortly made a reputation for themselves with their mix of Yolŋu rock, seamlessly fusing Indigenous sounds with surf-rock and different influences. Yunupiŋu, the nephew of the late Dr. M. Yunupiŋu of Yothu Yindi, co-founded the group with guitarist Roy Kellaway, the son of Yothu Yindi bassist Stuart Kellaway.

With Yunupiŋu as lead singer, King Stingray launched their self-titled debut album in 2022, adopted by For The Goals in November 2024.
